Seven Key Elements for Colorful Coating Construction:
01 Due to the special formula of water-based colorful coatings, construction is prohibited when the ambient temperature is below 5°C. After temperature drops, store the coatings above 10°C.
02 Confirm the construction dosage, on-site progress and construction area before customizing water-based colorful coatings. Use up the coatings in a timely manner and avoid long-term storage at low temperature. Keep track of weather changes to prevent material waste caused by temperature drop halting construction.
03 Avoid large-area construction in regions with low temperatures in autumn and winter. Adjust production formulas of colorful paints according to recent temperatures before ordering. For construction in special areas, communicate with the factory in advance to confirm constructability, construction requirements and precautions for targeted formula adjustment.
04 Given unstable weather across regions, closely monitor weather conditions. Construction is not recommended 12 hours before rainfall and 8 hours after rainfall.
05 When construction temperature is lower than 10°C, ensure the base layer is fully dry. It is advised to carry out spraying construction from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to ensure complete film formation before sunset.
06 During low-temperature construction, conduct two spray coats if the color dot coverage exceeds 50%. Special attention shall be paid to multi-layer spraying for thick-coat water-in-sand colorful coatings. Excess single-coat thickness shall be avoided to prevent sagging, slow drying, blistering, warping and film cracking.
07 Based on local temperature and spraying density, apply topcoat after 24 to 48 hours of drying, and ensure the temperature is above 5°C during topcoating.
How to Solve Common Problems in Colorful Coating Construction?
01 Blushing of water-in-water coating
Fully dry the main coating before applying topcoat. Use high-quality topcoat with sufficient dosage. These measures can relieve the problem. Fundamentally, optimize the main raw materials to completely solve blushing.
02 Cracking problem
Though water-based colorful coatings feature crack resistance, they cannot achieve ideal decorative effect alone. Adopt proper wall construction techniques: select high crack-resistant leveling mortar, alkali-resistant reinforcing materials, alkali-resistant primer and weather-resistant intermediate paint.
03 Construction equipment issues
Water-based colorful coatings are corrosive and adhesive to spraying equipment, especially iron devices. They may corrode pipelines, dissolve metal parts and separate fine particles, resulting in pockmarks on coatings. Besides, such coatings have poor dispersion stability against intense mechanical force. Sharp flow velocity change in pipelines compresses dispersed particles into solids, also causing coating pockmarks.
04 Stability effect issues
Water accounts for a large proportion in water-based colorful coatings, and its volatilization is greatly affected by the environment. It dries too fast in low humidity and causes cracks; film forming slows down severely in high humidity and leads to sagging. Freshly formed coating layers are sensitive to moisture, and increased air humidity will cause coating wrinkling.
05 Storage problems
Water-in-water colorful coatings consist of dispersed phase and continuous phase, which are mutually insoluble to form stable state. Due to specific gravity difference or improper viscosity control, long-term storage will cause the dispersed phase to sink and the continuous phase to float up, resulting in water floating and stratification.
